During winter the heating needs to be turned on sooner so that it heats up (especially if the previous week was unoccipied) Recycling bin for use during the week would be useful

Jo-anne “It was a great place to stay.”

Trudy “Another enjoyable stay.”
Always well stocked on arrival and spotless. We still get the wow factor when we climb the stairs. The Grandchildren loved counting the sheep from the big window. Leanne was really helpful when we needed advice about where to go to get treatment for a mountain bike fall! If you need a vet. Pets at home in Dorchester comes highly recommended from us. We needed to use them after our dog badly cut his paw. Hopefully back again next year. Thank you. X

Alan “Disappointed that it was not a working dairy farm as stated,As I understand it ceased to be one in 2018.”
I grew up on one and was looking forward to see how things had changed. Everything else was first class.
- Alan, April 2024I’m so sorry you were disappointed we’re not still dairying. It was such a hard life and always only one milking away from a crisis that we did decide to stop that part of the farming business. Thank you for drawing the need for this to be updated on the particulars to our attention. I’ve emailed Sykes about it today to ask them to change the information. Thank you for staying with us and for your kind comment. Property Owner

Sally “This was our second visit.”
I would highly recommend The Shepherds Hut. The upstairs living area is perfect for a small group of friends or family. Big kitchen which is really equipped. Comfy beds. Plenty of lovely country walks close by. Altogether, a great place to relax and reset.

Nikki “Lovely property and lovely owners.”
We are usually in and out of our holiday rentals but on this occasion my son was very ill the day of checkout. The team where easy to communicate with and incredibly understanding and empathetic. The property speaks for itself in the beautiful photos but to have empathetic management was the icing on the cake. We are booked to spend our Christmas here this year and can't wait. Its my dream property to be honest. Not to big, not too small, perfect location too. If they ever decided to sell I'd bite their arm off to take on this delightful building.
- Nikki, February 2024 -

This year my daughter came back with her children and hubby . It was great to see him feel the wow factor as he walked in.It was a magical time. Making memories with them. Setting is perfect for little ones. Everything we needed for us and children and dog's. Thanks to Leanne for keeping this place alittle gem, in the middle of a working farm and set away from busy roads. Missing the views already.

Stephen “Excellent property in a great location.”
Every aspect of the accommodation was spot on, made our holiday all the more special. Grand children loved watching the farmers getting the crops and bales in. Also the fields of sheep surrounding the property. Large garden made a great and safe play area for football etc. Eating outside became a real pleasure.

Peter “What a lovely place to stay, quiet and peaceful and views across the fields to the woods at the top of the hill.”
The upside down arrangement worked well and the large window in the living area is fantastic. The property is well equipped and comfortable and is situated within easy access of Blandford Forum, Dorchester and the coast. The dogs made friends with the lambs who crowded around whenever they were out in the garden. The garden is nicely kept and has a large grassed area and nice pation area with table and chairs. There is also a brick barbecue, at the front of the house there is plenty of parking. There are lovely walks around the farm.
- Peter, May 2022 -
James “Amazing property.”
Perfect rural location. Excellent finish and personal touches.
- James, May 2022 -
Marilyn “This beautiful upside down barn conversion has stunning views and lovely walks from the door.”
It is very well equipped, clean and with comfy beds. The farm is very well managed ...a safe and attractive natural environment. People have commented upon the heat upstairs but this is easily managed by drawing the big blinds until mid morning and opening windows when you're in. This is a good choice for an away from it all, peaceful break, but equally good to explore via Dorchester and the A35. A lovely holiday...thank you.
- Marilyn, May 2022 -
Julie “Great property, fabulous location.”
This was our 3rd visit and would definitely go back.
- Julie, March 2022 -

Tim “Wonderful place to stay on the farm, lovely location and spacious accommodation, will definitely return again.”
- Tim, October 2021 -
Douglas “The cottage itself and location were spot on and the cleanliness was good.”
Just a couple of points I think other visitors should be aware of. Firstly on a couple of mornings I was woken from a barking dog coming from the employee static caravans. Secondly there were several giant house spiders within the property. This may not affect everyone but we felt uneasy.
- Douglas, September 2021Thank you for your feedback and we're glad you liked our cottage. We've recently let a local resident who was struggling to manage his rent elsewhere, due to the pandemic, use one of the static homes on the otherside of the field. He is only there a couple of nights a week, but we will monitor for dog barking in the light of your comments. Re the "giant house spiders" we wonder if these could have been "Daddy Long Legs" (apparently not spiders zoologically) as we've had a few of these in our own house recently. We're sorry you were bothered by them and understand they can seem rather large. Fortunately they're normally only around for a few days at the end of the summer and apart from their appearance don't cause any other problems. Property Owner

- John, May 2021 -
Karen Hugill “We had a lovely break at the Shepherd's Hut.”
The setting is beautiful and the house is really comfortable and much larger than expected. All the kitchen tools were available, as well as staples like salt, pepper, oil, tea, coffee, milk, etc which makes like and packing easier. We made full use of the wood burner which made everything very cosy. Only tip is for navigation...if using google maps turn on satellite view and drop a pin or us what three words. Just make sure that the route ends with the instructions provided as there are some roads to avoid. It means we found it easily in the dark, which could have been tricky otherwise.
- Karen Hugill, December 2020 -
R “Third visit.”
Wonderful experience as always.
- R, October 2020 -
Jeanette “A lovely cottage in wonderful scenery.”
Very comfortable, and well equipped with everything you could need for a self catering holiday. Scenic views from the upstairs living room, enjoyed watching the sheep , and the farming activity. We will certainly be back.

Roger “Just home after a lovely week at Shepherds Hut, to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary with some family.”
The countryside around was just so lovely, quiet, and relaxing, watching the sheep all around the property. Everything there exceeded our expectations, all you could ever need was there, its just so peaceful, and we all loved the choice we made for our special time together.
- Roger, September 2020 -

- Alan, August 2020 -
Kenneth “Perfect countryside views, very clean and comfortable and a lovely stay on a working farm.”
The hosts respected our space but reacted quickly when we reported a problem with the internet which was repaired next day. A good area for day trips and walking and bird watching.
- Kenneth, August 2020 -
Jane “Lovely quiet place to stay, a bit like the tardis , much bigger on the inside than it looked from outside.”
The local pub had delicious food and a good place to stay for for exploring the area, would definitely consider staying there again.
- Jane, August 2020 -
Joanna “Shepherd's Hut was just perfect.”
Standing alone in the middle of a working farm surrounded by fields and some sheep. It was idealistic! The barn had beautiful uninterrupted views from all angles. It was pristine clean and had everything we needed from pegs for the washing line to a hairdryer and kitchen products and utensils we needed daily. The garden was gated and the upstairs had a stair gate which meant it was incredibly safe for our young children too. I could not recommend it enough. Beaches and most tourist attractions were about 30 minutes drive away. We wish we could have stayed longer!
- Joanna, July 2020 -
Steve “We really enjoyed our stay at Shepherd's Hut.”
The only improvements we could suggest would for a large ceiling fan upstairs as it gets quite warm and also possibly some netting around the Velux windows to keep out insects. Other than that we loved it and are looking forward to returning next year!
- Steve, July 2020 -
Donna “Amazing barn, fantastically clean and tidy.”
Super location and a great relaxing break. I could go on and on it was fab.
- Donna, March 2020 -
Clare “Very enjoyable Christmas holiday at Shepherds Hut and was exactly what we needed as a family.”
Must remember to take a hairdryer though if we go again!
- Clare, December 2019 -
Adam “Absolutely fabulous weekend away in a spotless cottage with everything we needed.”
Very well organised with all of the utensils, facilities and kitchen equipment to easily make breakfast for everyone without any trouble. Our only minor feedback is that the road sign is hard to find at night and would benefit from a light - we drove past it a few times without realising or even seeing it! More signage on the farm track would also be beneficial. Perhaps too much of a hidden gem!
- Adam, November 2019 -
Nancy “What an absolute gem this property was.”
Found on a search it’s pictures didn’t do it justice. Very well equipped with all the instructions plus loads of information about what’s on locally. Fabulous. Will definitely be recommending it.
- Nancy, October 2019 -
Michelle “Best cottage holiday we have booked so far.”
Far better than pictures. Very well equipped in the kitchen. Came home feeling thoroughly relaxed and happy. Perfect location for countryside views and walks.
- Michelle, October 2019 -
Tina “Would highly recommend The Shepherd;s Hut.”
Location good base for all Dorset has to offer, in a lovely rural position. Great to see the farm animals and the daily running of the farm. Flies were a pest, but not unexpected, as part and parcel of staying on a farm. Everything you could possibly need was provided at The Hut with the little extra touches of a cake and some milk, which was very much appreciated. Had a problem with the electric kettle and this was replaced immediately. Great place to stay with dogs and children.
- Tina, September 2019 -
Andrea “The Shepherd's Hut was really lovely.”
It's set in beautiful countryside on a peaceful farm. There's walks all around the farm as well as lots to do in the local area. The house itself was spacious, well equipped and immaculately kept.

Always get the wow factor walking up the stairs to the views of the farm. Always clean. The milk and cake is always appreciated after the journey to start are holiday. Our dogs love the freedom of the large garden and the walks in the area. Leanne has helped us out over the years, always with a smile. The 2 weeks go by too fast. We miss the sunrises and sunsets and just the peace from this beautiful hut. Thank you for another great holiday. Trudy Gary Robert Molly & Adam. The terriers Wilf and Bo send a big Woof.
- Trudy, September 2018 -
Sue “Just got home from a fabulous week meeting up with family at Shepherd’s Hut.”
The location of the property on a working farm meant there was always something to watch from the stunning window upstairs in the lounge. Being set away from the road, it feels remarkably peaceful. We were amazed how they have fitted in such spacious accommodation on such a small footprint. The cottage was clean, comfortable and extremely well equipped. We enjoy baking whilst on holiday and the kitchen had everything we needed. We even purchased flour and rapeseed oil produced on the farm. (I’ve made bread from the flour on returning home and discovered what bread is supposed to taste like! Delicious!).The little extras waiting for us on arrival were a lovely touch. We would love to return.
- Sue, September 2018 -
Ian “The Shepherds Hut was brilliant.”
Lovely small personal touches which made our stay all the more relaxing and effortless! The hut was far enough away to get away from ‘it all’ but close enough to local town to be able to get any bits and pieces we needed! A really relaxing location and a well equipped house. We would definitely recommend. We loved it!
- Ian, August 2018 -
Dietmar “The cottage is incredibly well appointed.”
Small welcome touches upon arrival were also greatly appreciated. Very well situated and allows easy commutes to sights and experiences that are relatively close by. Would definitely and have recommended to friends.
- Dietmar, April 2018 -

Fantastic conversion, private and away from other buildings. Helpful but not intrusive hosts. The cottage had every single thing you could want for. 5 stars
- Rachel, March 2018 -
Lisa “We have stayed in some wonderful cottages with Sykes.”
The Shepherds Hut exceeds all the other cottages by far. The location was perfect for visiting all the Dorset sites. The facilities within the barn were outstanding. I cannot imagine we could have a found anything we needed that wasn't there already. We had snow during our 2 week stay and it was beautiful to look over the hills from the barn. The view from the huge windows is wonderful and so relaxing. We were not bothered by the manager of the holiday home unless we asked for help, then we were given all the help we needed. Perfect cottage and we would highly recommend The Shepherds Hut!
- Lisa, March 2018 -
Caleb “Mine and my girlfriend's stay here was phenomenal.”
An incredible location (very private as well), stylishly decorated and with all the things we needed already inside. I can't recommend Shepard's Hut highly enough. It made our first holiday together one that I'll always remember extremely fondly. Will definitely come again... just got to hope it's not already booked!
- Caleb, December 2017 -

- Adrian, October 2016 -
Trudy “A fabulous gem.”
We have been coming here the last 6 years. Perfect for us and our two dogs. Location very central to our trips out. The peace is just the tonic we need to help recharge our batteries! We met the cleaner this year. A lovely lady who enjoys her work and it shows. The Hut is spotlessly clean on arrival. I'm sure we will be back still so much to explore in Dorset. Thank you.
- Trudy, September 2016 -

Paul “There was a wow factor from the moment you walk up the stairs and see what a fantastic view there is of the countryside.”
We loved the fact that we were in the middle of a busy working farm, and often woke up in the morning with sheep surrounding our garden. We all loved chilling out in the beautiful garden that was very pet friendly and secure. We've already booked to stay there this Christmas. We highly recommend this wonderful cottage.

- Anthony, February 2016 -
Claire “A stunning barn which was extremely clean with a beautiful garden.”
There were lots of cutlery & kitchen utensils, towels etc. Our dogs loved being able to go for walks straight out the front door & the garden was so well fenced that there was no danger of them getting out. Definitely recommend & will be back again as soon as we can get some more leave.
- Claire, December 2015 -
Chris “Shepherd's Hut was absolutely fabulous - we had a wonderful time in the most gorgeous setting.”
The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped, the views spectacular, and the cottage comfortable and accommodating all round. The only thing I would say is that the photos online definitely don't do the cottage justice. A fantastic place, thanks.
- Chris, November 2015 -

Sue “The property made our holiday!”
To be honest, we were a little nervous as there were no pictures on the site as it was a new property and they didn't go on for ages for some strange reason. I never usually book without a look at house first. However, as it was new I did and it was just outstanding inside. It was so new and of such a high standard. The best bit of all was the huge window at the end of the living room. We had an amazing view and as their were over 600 cows on this dairy farm we now know everything about cows! We watched them go to be milked twice a day and we even saw one give birth from our arm chairs. We saw buzzards, chaffinch and rabbits to name a few. We had a fantastic time - thank you.
- Sue, April 2011
