“This is a lovely little property that is conveniently located close to the train station.”

The train station is great as it helps avoid the very busy car parks in Weymouth, and my four year old loved spotting the trains. There wasn't too much noise and the garden was peaceful with comfortable garden furniture. The host was warm and considerate. She had thought of lots of little touches, such as leaving the water and biscuit for our dog, a child's drink the the fridge, a nightlight in our child's room, drawing materials in the cupboard. There was care and thought put into the stay. The wifi was excellent when we stayed and I was able to do a Teams meeting on the one day I had to work while I was at the property. I saw some other reviews on another site saying that the property was outdated but the cottage is decorated in a style that is appropriate for a cottage! It is very cosy and very sweet.The paint was fresh and the beds were very clean. We would definitely stay again and think this is a great base for exploring the area.

Near to everything were we went. Lovely comfy cottage. Everything you needed in the cottage. Our puppy dog loved the beaches everyday. Lovely county pub food. We are big walkers so it was stunning views walking the coast line. We will be back. Owners very pleasant to speak with. Weather was perfect for our holiday. Xx

“A clean and comfortable two-bedroom cottage with a great secure grass lawned garden which was fabulous for our two dogs.”

Wonderful summer house housing seating table sun parasol and barbecue and buckets and spades. The only thing that could be improved was the shower which was a little lack lustre due to low water pressure I'm guessing but it was hot. As we went in April it was often raining and it was lovely to get in and be really warm. The beds were very comfy. Exceptionally clean house with lots of games to play in the cupboard. The kitchen was well equipped. We really enjoyed our visit. family of four.

“Lovely clean and comfortable cottage, had a relaxing stay.”

As my husband and myself are of a mature age the stairs for upstairs are steep and could be difficult if you have arthritis or similar issues. As read in previous reviews you can hear the level crossing bells when trains come through but you get used to this very quickly. trains to Weymouth in 20 minutes was great. Gave a break from driving. Had a lovely break.Dorset is a great county to visit. Thank you.

“We had a great time at Brickyard cottage.”

If you're using the cottage solely as a base for days out, the cottage is more than adequate. I wouldn't choose it solely to spend the week indoors as it lacks a couple of creature comforts (tumble dryer being the number one item). It could do with an update to the decor and facilities but maybe I'm nitpicking. The house was spotlessly clean and accommodated our family of four without a problem. Be aware that the fourth bed is a 'truckle bed' which is narrower and shorter than a normal single. This was perfectly fine for my younger child, but it wouldn't accommodate a teenager. We knew about this in advance, so it wasn't an issue for us. The house is just across the road from The Frampton Arms pub (great food) and Moreton railway station. This means you can hop on the train into Dorechester and Weymouth etc, but be aware that there is a level crossing and the sirens are audible in the house when the windows are open. You can park directly outside the house but we didn't bother as there were ample parking spaces on the nearby road. The house is perfectly sited for places like Monkey World, the Tank museum and for getting into Dorchester and Weymouth either by train or car. It's less than 20 minutes from Durdle Door and Lulworth cove as well, so ideal if you dont want to spend hours driving to locations. We had a lovely time at Brickyard cottage and would book again.

“Pleasant cottage for a week away in Dorset.”

Good location for train station and a very good dog friendly pub. Nice garden. I personally found the living room a little too dark & the furniture uncomfortable. I regularly holiday in the UK in similar accommodation and feel that the cost at £175 per night (inc booking fee) was too high all things considered.

Several things impacted on our stay...unfriendly owner and neighbours, too many rules and regulations, night time railway repairs which we ( And Sykes ) were not made aware of and just a general lack of home comforts.

“Nice cottage, spotless.”

Kitchen and bathroom well equipped. Garden pleasant to sit out. Would have been nice to have some seat cushions. Sittingroom had a musty smell. Sofa, chairs and beds comfortable. Used the train on several occasions, handy. Pub across the road served good food, friendly service. Friendly neighbours. Good cycling in the area. Enjoyed Ringstead Bay and Bowleaze Bay, good swimming. Enjoyed our stay!

“This is a beautiful cottage very near a main road and railway station with limited parking.”

However, it was spotless and a lovely place to stay. I would say it is advertised as dog friendly and we did take our little pooch with us, but signs up saying not on the furniture or upstairs were a bit disappointing. I appreciate you don't want dogs on the beds but if someone turns up with a family pet who is used to being able to go upstairs, to suddenly stop this is very difficult. That said, the owner was nice when we spoke and it was spotlessly clean.

“We missed the advertised DVD!”

But this property is excellent, spotlessly clean and well equipped. It's ideally situated for a decent pub, mainline railway and endless countryside walks. Our only problem was the central heating, which came on for barely three hours a day; early mornings and late afternoons could be cold, although we had a lot of sunshine which helped if we were around in the daytime. The open fire and Rayburn weren't much use because both would gobble fuel, and little was provided. We couldn't find anywhere that sold the stuff. We would be very happy indeed to rent the property again, but we'd take a fan heater with us!

“A splendid cottage - very warm and inviting.”

The cottage is situated in the perfect location - a quiet area with lots of historical sites and beautiful Dorset scenery only a short drive away. We arrived in two cars and parked outside/very nearby without any problems. The cottage has everything you could possibly need - a modern bathroom and kitchen, towels, and complementary tea and biscuits which were a warm welcome after a long drive. We were accompanied by our two dogs and the garden is very secure and quite beautiful - nice to sit outside on a sunny day. In short, we had a lovely stay and I highly recommend this cottage for anyone looking for a warm and charming cottage in a good location.

The property

Brickyard Cottage is a cosy terraced cottage situated on the outskirts of the village of Moreton, near the village train station, which is on the main trainline from London.

The cottage is traditionally built and features cottage style doors and a Rayburn.

Once you enter through the hall, put your bags in two bedrooms upstairs and cosy up by the open fire in a sitting room.

Bathroom is in lovely sky-blue colour and is very bright, spacious and comfortable for you to get ready for a day out exploring the area.

There is a summer house in the pretty garden along with a small furnished patio upon which you can enjoy the many birds who visit the garden, previous guests have reported spotting a wide variety of species including woodpeckers.

Moreton is well known for its church with windows etched by Whistler and it is famed as the resting place of T.E.

Lawrence, more commonly known as Lawrence of Arabia.

The area surrounding the cottage is called ‘Thomas Hardy’ Country.

His birthplace at Bockhampton and his home at Max Gate are two local interest attractions.

The Frampton Arms Inn is just a stroll away and offers local beers and a variety of meals.

Visiting Dorchester, Weymouth and the many surrounding beaches is just a short car ride away.

Moreton Station has a direct line service to Weymouth and to London.

Brickyard Cottage is well positioned for visiting South West Dorset's attractions such as Monkey World, the Tank Museum and the wonderful World Heritage Jurassic Coastline. This beautiful cottage is a delight to explore beautiful South West Dorset countryside for a family or friends just a short drive away from the beach.

About the location

Dorchester 7.6 miles; Weymouth 12.3 miles; Blandford Forum 14.5 miles.

Moreton is a tranquil village that sits just 8 miles east of the County town of Dorchester, and is famous for it’s association with the celebrated soldier, writer and pioneering archaeologist T.E.Lawrence, better know as Lawrence of Arabia. He settled in the village in a cottage called Cloud’s Hill and now owned by the National Trust. While living here he struck up a relationship with Louisa Frampton and some of their letters can be seen in the Moreton Tea rooms. Moreton sits just 8 miles from the County town of Dorchester where you can find Thomas Hardy’s Former home and cottage, as well as many cafes and restaurants and other high street amenities you require. If you are interested in military history then the Bovington Tank Museum is just 6 miles drive away, and a very informative day.
