“The setting is stunning and the grounds are beautiful.”

The cottage is cute and pretty well equipped. The reason for the lower scores is simply the mattress on the double bed. We both found it really uncomfortable and as a result had a week of disturbed sleep which was such a shame and really frustrating.

The property

Whispering Pines cottage is a rural retreat set in the tranquil Tamarisk Wayside Gardens nestled together with two other holiday cottages. Surrounded by unspoiled countryside, with stunning sea views of the Jurassic Coast, it is an ideal base for exploring West Dorset. The property is a cottage bungalow built in local stone with all accommodation comfortably set up on one level.

The bedrooms are located to the rear of the living area and offer views of the surrounding trees and garden.

There is a sociable living area with a kitchen, dining space and also a sitting area. From the sitting area, in sunny weather, open the patio doors and enjoy the lawned garden to relax, have a picnic or play a game with your children or pets.

The property accepts two well-behaved dogs. In chilly weather snuggle up in the lounge, add some wood to the log burner and partake in a warming hot chocolate.

The setting of the cottage is wonderful, with gardens overlooking the South West coast and West Bexington countryside which slopes down to the sea.

The landscape and close proximity to the coast will inspire you to explore further for sure. The cottage is just a few minutes’ drive from the market town of Bridport (6 miles) with an array of quirky shops and lovely streets and a market with local fresh produce.

Venture further (choose if you want to walk or drive) and you will reach beautiful West Bay with its cute harbour and stunning cliffs. A short drive further and you will reach the tallest cliff on the South coast – the Golden Cap that sits proud and is visible from far away.

You can see the fossil hunters’ paradise of Lyme Regis and also Charmouth from the top of the cliff, with both offering a unique opportunity to explore the Jurassic coast at close quarters.

The busy town of Weymouth with it’s award-winning sandy beach is an hour’s drive away with lots of attractions for adults and children alike.

Nothe Fort and Gardens offer views across to the rugged Isle of Portland and along the coast to Lulworth cove, and with its Georgian esplanade it will make a perfect place for a visit, a swim or picnic.

Whispering Pines Cottage is charming and full of character, and perfect for families and friends looking for a quiet retreat.

About the location

WEST BEXINGTON

Abbotsbury 3 miles; Bridport 6 miles.

Lying next to the sea and Chesil Beach, equidistant between Burton Bradstock and Abbotsbury, is the small village of West Bexington. This is a stunning area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an area of Special Scientific Interest - pebbled Chesil Beach, which extends for 14 miles, from Burton Bradstock to the Portland peninsula, is part of the Jurassic Coast and now a World Heritage Site. Fishermen and walkers are well provided for, as a great variety of fish can be caught at any time of year, and the South West Coastal Path runs right alongside the beach. Only confident swimmers should attept to swim here, but Weymouth, offering lovely, gently shelving sands, is only a short drive away. There's lots to see and do within easy reach of the village. No journey to this area would be complete without a visit to picturesque Abbotsbury, 3 miles, with its Swannery, Tithe Barn and Sub Tropical Gardens, with Dorchester, Bridport, and Lyme Regis all within easy reach.
