“The Compass was a lovely, immaculate property.”

Everything that was necessary for a good place to stay was there. The only problem we had was the seating of the dining area. The seating consisted of two bar stools which weren't easily accessed for us, being elderly, and were very uncomfortable . That said, we had a great holiday in a lovely property.

“The Compass was a fabulous find, a true home from home, so well equipped (the owners have thought of everything) and it has such a lovely welcoming & cosy feel from the moment you walk in & unpack.”

The property is excellently placed for exploring so much of the Jurassic Coast, and there's lots on offer, from steam trains, to castles, to many coastland walks, and beautiful beaches highlighting just a few. We also found some wonderful local restaurants serving fresh & tasty food, welcoming pubs, fish & chips, delicious pastry bakeries with daily deals, and a wonderful local artist who creates brilliant original artwork all in the heart of Swanage. We definitely recommend The Compass as a place to rest a weary head, enjoy the local area, and leave enough to come back again for! :)

“Our 3rd visit and we have already booked our 4th.”

The Compass is perfect for our needs. It is very well equipped, is spotlessly clean and has parking. The location, in the centre of Swanage makes it handy for the shops, the beach and as a starting point for some lovely walks. Only one thing to point out, the fridge door seemed to have dropped so was difficult to close and there was no lower shelf in the door for milk etc.

Parking is tight but we knew that, luckily car park was quiet. Settee was a little uncomfortable at times but more than made up for by the superb location. We hope to be back.

Too cold for a winter break even with timed heating. Oven broken, owner advised & may repair. Was unable to access gate to external bins. Had to climb on the wall to dispose of rubbish. Property very well presented and immaculate.

This the first time we have had this feedback, as we have had many visitors during the winter months, so I have investigated your concern. It appeared the radiator valves had been turned down which we had note noticed, our apologies for this. I have turned them back up which I think has addressed the issue. Sorry about the problem with the oven. An engineer has inspected the oven and although it was found to be working, but reduced efficiency, we have decided to replace it and have fitted a new one. With regards to the access to the bin area. It would appear all the rain we have had recently has expanded the gate, which has made it stick a little. “This is a little Gem!”

Extremely clean, with everything you need to enjoy your short break, or longer holiday. Including a very thoughtful welcome gift. A pillow that does not give you neck ache for your entire stay! So good was it I had to look at the make, so that I can get one at the earliest opportunity! There are lots of lovely walks and a really good bus service to Wareham, Poole and Bournemouth. From now on we will be booking The Compass every time. What a find. The location is perfect! Right in the middle of town and a two minute walk to the beach. We thought it may be a little noisy but the bedroom is at the back, overlooking a shared patio area, so sleeping was not a problem. Small dishwasher, washing machine, a fully equipped and perfect sized kitchen. Including complimentary tea, coffee, milk, cake, biscuits and fruit on arrival. Large walk in shower. Nicely decorated, cosy and comfortable. For the two of us this accommodation was spot on and we fully recommend it...

Spotlessly clean with everything one could wish for in holiday accommodation. Supplies and treats provided for us were a very nice touch. Excellent central location and great to have a parking space. The only small downside was having the pub so close by - evenings at the weekend were particularly noisy. Also, the outdoor space is in a shared area so no privacy when sitting outside.

Excellent bed - super comfortable mattress! The one drawback is that the designated outside seating area is disappointing; right on top of the noisy pub area, with no sun umbrella, so we didn't use it at all. Extremely well located for all the delights of Swanage in easy walking distance.

We were told we had lost our deposit and the holiday had been cancelled, even though we had an email saying we had paid. We had to rebook for the next week and pay a fee, the whole booking process caused us stress and upset. We were made to feel that it was our fault that Sykes had not processed the payment

It has everything you could possibly need. From a cleanliness perspective it was immaculate. We knew when we booked that our car would probably be too big for the allocated space, which it was, but there it plenty of free street parking just around the corner. We only had 2 nights as that was all that was available at such short notice but would love to return for longer next time.

All very good this was the first time renting a cottage as we use our touring caravan most of the time we were shocked as it was Christmas eve even the little things like cooking foil and shrink wrap was there but we did take our own in case all we can say it was a well earned break away from home I have never slept so much recommend 100 % away from phone and work

It is centrally located in Swanage. We enjoyed walking, mainly along coastal paths. There are plenty of eating and drinking places around, many in walking distance. Otherwise there are supermarkets and bakers close. The flat was very clean and comfortable. The owners have an eye for decor and have thought of many little ‘extras’ that are appreciated. Can recommend this property.

I found the parking space adequate and quite easy to get into providing you reversed into the court yard. Reversing into the court yard also made it very easy to get out of again? But it is a good idea to have someone on the road to warn you of approaching traffic as it is difficult to see approaching vehicles.

“The apartment was absolutely fantastic, with everything you needed .”

The welcoming treats of cake and fruit etc were a lovely touch. It was just lovely to be able to park the car and not have to worry about it, parking at the seaside is usually limited. Swanage is a lovely town and I would definitely recommend this apartment to my friends and family.

“Great little flat!”

The parking would be on the tight side if you have a big car. Convenient for the town and for exploring the Jurassic coast along the South West Coastal Path. Really enjoyed our break and the owners were really helpful. I would recommend a visit!

“The expected car parking space at the property was A JOKE!”

Room to park our car only if we didn't mind blocking the exit/entrance for all other residents or risking getting our car scraped or worse.Our allotted space was big enough for a moped or 2 bicycles or a Mini at best. Usual palaver with temperature controls on shower & very patchy TV reception...but neither insuperable or terminal ...par for the course in a holiday let! Flat was amazing...so well furnished,well maintained & SUPER location.Shops,pubs,sea/beach/seafront & other amenities all within minutes of leaving the flat.Very hard to find such a lovely location with such welcoming locals. How did Sykes manage to arrange the weather? Despite difficulties with car parking....will almost certainly advise friends to visit.

“A beautiful flat.”

The owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Tea, cakes and milk were waiting for us when we arrived. Everything looked new as if we were the first visitors. An excellent experience.

The Compass is a lovely retreat nestled in the heart of Swanage, at the eastern end of Dorset’s famous Jurassic Coast.

It boasts a double bedroom, with a pull-out bed for those travelling with a child, sleeping up to three people in total.

There is also a shower room inside, as well as an open-plan living room with a kitchen, dining area and sitting area.

To the exterior is a designated dining space giving you the option of eating alfresco style, along with an off-road parking space for one car.

SWANAGE

Wareham 9.7 miles; Poole 20 miles.

The small, family-friendly seaside resort of Swanage is situated at the eastern end of Dorset’s famous Jurassic Coast, on the celebrated Isle of Purbeck and is probably best known for its wonderful, gently shelving golden sands. The little town offers visitors plenty of shops, good pubs and restaurants, some of which specialise in locally caught seafood, and is also well known for its annual jazz festival, which takes place each July. The attractive, Victorian wooden pier offers a great place for a stroll or try fishing, and often used a departure point for divers, it’s a wonderful place to watch the world pass by. The historic Swanage Railway has its terminus in the town and regular nostalgic steam engine trips take tourists for a picturesque 6-mile journey, chugging through lovely countryside to stop just beyond the romantic ruin of Corfe Castle. Nearby Durlston Country Park offers a lovely day out with spectacular coastal walks, dolphin spotting and wildlife watching, together with comfortable viewing points and a well-stocked cafe for a treat after all the fresh air. Take the short drive to Studland, which has one of the finest beaches in the country, surrounded by heathland, together with the regular chain ferry, which crosses the mouth of Poole Harbour to Sandbanks. This truly is a delightful holiday destination at any time of the year.
