The accommodation was very comfortable, well furnished and equipped, offering everything we needed , so it did not take long to settle in and feel at home. ). Warm and cosy, quiet and peaceful, but only 10 mins to Dorchester. Everything you could need, would love to go back in summer. Parking quite tight if you have a large 4wd but doable. Great place to recharge your batteries and relax

The kitchen had everything you needed to cook for the week and the extra bits supplied by Sarah and Andrew were very welcomed. The place was warm and cosy and there were bus routes a 5 minute walk away to Weymouth and Dorchester. We had a long walk to Hardy’s monument and visited the wishing well cafe which was lovely. We would definitely recommend this place to stay. Our standards are high and they were met! Sarah and Andrew were very friendly and nothing would have been too much trouble for them in order to make your stay comfortable. A gem!

The accommodation was comfortable, and had everything you could need, the bed was one of the comfiest we've slept in. Perfectly situated for exploring the whole area, the buses are nearby and frequent, the railway station is 5 minutes away and free parking. A Dorset cream tea at the Wishing Well is a must! It’s very well equipped including household items such as washing up liquid etc. The decking area was an added bonus it was lovely to sit out in the garden on warm evenings. Upwey is very well situated, Weymouth and Dorchester are very close by and can be accessed by a bus that runs from the top of the road. The owners have thought of everything and provided a welcome pack which included a pint of milk which was much appreciated. There are two good pubs close by that provide good food and The Wishing Well restaurant is a 10 minute walk and well worth the effort. We would definitely recommend and hope to return soon

“The Little Retreat is a lovely compact bungalow set in a quiet village away from the hustle and bustle of Weymouth, We loved our stay which suited our needs with bus stops just a few minutes away at the top of the road and a good pub serving real ales.”

In the morning we could see deer, rabbits and birds from the French doors in the sitting area. On arrival there was a bag of ground coffee, crisps, soft drinks and milk to greet us. The accommodation was spotless clean throughout. Overall highly recommended. The only negatives would be the absence of a dishwasher and the bathroom would benefit from upgrading to bring it up to a higher standard

Everything was there that we needed. The gardens were fabulous. It was quiet except for the birds flying around and lovely to sit and watch the rabbits in the field beyond. Instructions for everything was clear in their book. Little Retreat was situated in a lovely village street, easy access, own parking. Walks etc. close by It is clear that Sarah and Andrew take pride in their property as it was decorated to a high standard. Also Sarah purchased another set of mattress cover, pillow covers etc. so that we had fresh on, due to covid. Sarah followed the covid instructions, shame other Sykes properties do not!!! I would recommend Little Retreat

The property

A converted detached property located in the picturesque village of Upwey, near Weymouth.

Situated in the grounds of `The Retreat', Little Retreat offers privacy and seclusion, with its own entrance and gardens. The owner has invested time and effort to ensure a high specification throughout with fitted luxury kitchen and bathroom plus modern comfortable furniture and fittings. There are two steps up to Little Retreat and then the accommodation is is all on one level.

Once inside the property you will find the open plan living area, which is just perfect for two.

Sit and relax chatting and laughing enjoying a snack you have prepared in the kitchen.

Relax outside on the patio enjoying the peace and quiet of the lawned garden with mature trees and flower borders.

The village of Upwey has two good pubs and The Upwey Wishing Well tea rooms which offers homemade cakes and Dorset Cream teas, all in an easy stroll from Little Retreat.

Upwey was a favourite venue for Thomas Hardy the writer and offers quiet walks from various bridleways into stunning Dorset scenery.

A short journey across the rolling hills of Dorset will take you to the famous Chesil coastline in the West or the Purbeck coastline in the East.

Weymouth's golden sandy beach, shopping centre, gourmet restaurants and colourful harbour are a mere 10 minute car or bus ride away. A quaint little cottage perfect for a short break near Weymouth.

UPWEY

Dorchester 4.5 miles; Weymouth 4 miles.

The picturesque village of Upwey lies just four miles north of Weymouth, nestling beneath the Dorset Ridgeway, and takes its name from the shallow chalk stream, the River Wey, which bubbles up here from an underground spring. Upwey is well-known for its Wishing Well, where George III once sought the benefits of the natural spring water. It is now a delightful tea room, serving lunches and traditional cream teas. There are a number of footpaths leading directly from the village to miles of unspoilt countryside, and close by is the market town of Dorchester, Thomas Hardy’s ’Casterbridge’. An easy drive or bus ride takes you to the popular seaside resort of Weymouth offering visitors glorious golden sandy beaches, excellent watersports facilities and a bustling harbour. An attractive village location and an ideal place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
