A charming getaway to Lyme Regis and the surrounding villages offers the chance to immerse yourself in country life, with lovely walks, traditional old pubs and tea rooms. It is a wonderful way to relax and rejuvenate; life is noticeably slower, more peaceful and completely beautiful.

Lyme Regis itself is a bustling seaside town, famous for its harbour wall, The Cobb, where Meryl Streep stood in the film, ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’. Offering everything from fossil hunting to romantic fish suppers, Lyme Regis has a pretty packed events calendar but the villages surrounding this famous town, certainly deserve a mention.

Here are 3 perfect little villages for you to explore during your stay…

Uplyme

Uplyme is a perfect little village, which sits in the beautiful countryside. It is actually located in the county of Devon, despite being within walking distance of the Dorset town of Lyme Regis.

If you are staying in or near Uplyme in one of our cosy country dorset cottages, then you will be snuggly sat right in the middle of stunning English countryside. There is a delightful 5 mile walk which takes in the best country spots, along the River Lym, through woodland paths, through Uplyme and past the Cobb Harbour in a loop. The walk includes part of the South West Coastal path and offers fantastic views from Ware Cliffs.

Once you have walked all or part of this loop, then you can sit awhile in Uplyme’s local village pub, The Talbot Arms with its charming shabby chic furniture and big comfy armchairs.

Charmouth

Charmouth, just one mile away from Lyme Regis, is a lovely seaside town sat right at the heart of the Jurassic Coastline. Head here for one of the best fossil hunting beaches in the country! The gently shelving beach at Charmouth is great for kids, especially at low tide when the sand emerges along with rock pools where they can happily search for crabs.

Further inland, Charmouth offers country village walks past rivers, streams and flower meadows, as well as several places to eat and drink including beach and village cafes and a couple of wonderful dog-friendly pubs.

Dalwood

Although a 20-minute drive from Lyme Regis (a beautiful drive at that), Dalwood is a lovely, quiet and tranquil village in East Devon offering perfect country walks and rambles, a beautiful thatched old English pub and a blissful pace of life! Located not too far from Lyme Bay Winery, you can’t go wrong with a relaxing break here. Long walks, rambles and wine; just perfect!
